This study hypothesizes a possible mechanism for bodily resurrection, based on what we have learned about biology and neuroscience over the last century. The purpose for the study is not to claim that I have definitively “solved” the mystery of the resurrection or to present some sort of new theological dogma. It is a model, a conceptual tool designed to demonstrate the plausibility of a bodily resurrection that is compatible with modern science, as well as Biblical teaching. My hope is that this paper would strengthen the faith of those who may believe that a bodily resurrection is a fanciful notion. Probabilistically speaking, there is an enormous gulf between the difficulty of performing a complex task using intelligence, versus that same task occurring by chance only. This study shows the mathematical probabilities for a simple task that even a child could perform, and shows that this task could (effectively) never have occurred by chance, given the age of the universe. Given this, the study argues that life (a much more complex task) could never have occurred by chance.
